At just over 50 kg and 150 cm, I realize that in my search for a high performance surf kayak, I was basically asking for a custom design – enter Peter and Mega.

Prior to surfing the Missile, I was in the Mega Matrix.  I absolutely loved the speed of the Matrix, but consistently struggled to get my rail engaged on carving turns.  The hull was often flat on the face of the wave despite my best efforts get the boat on edge.  On a whim, I reached out to Peter to see what my options were for downsizing.  To my delight, the Missile was born.

The Missile retained all of the speed of my Matrix – It is a rocket down the line!  I am able to make sections that appear impossible much to the chagrin of the guys I surf with. The Missile is without a doubt the most maneuverable kayak I have surfed.  The narrow width and low volume make it extremely responsive even with my light weight and short frame.  The boat is quick to the lip and effortlessly carves the tightest of arcs back to the pocket.

By cutting down the volume to fit an extra small paddler, the edges on the nose are aggressive.  The Missile isn’t going to ‘hold your hand’ through a steep takeoff.  I find that I need to be more attentive to my take-off position, angle, and speed.  If this is your first time in properly sized surf kayak, you may also find the performance to be very sensitive to seat position forward and aft.
